| What
Is Our Foundation?
Our non-profit
Foundation has been created to establish a conduit for
community support of the high school and its students.
It is administered by a 17-member Board of
Directors comprised of the community’s business and
professional leaders.
Through our
Foundation’s efforts, the high school will be able to
provide equipment, facilities and services to enhance the
students’ all-around education.
Donations of your time and your financial resources
are both welcome as we work to provide even greater
opportunities for education and recreation in Woodlake.
Our Foundation Goals
The purpose of
our foundation is to generate significant financial
support of projects which otherwise would not be possible
within the budget of our district.
Recent cutbacks
in government funding of education have created critical
needs in the school district, and monies channeled through
our Foundation will be used for capital equipment not
otherwise possible.
Be A Part Of These Goals
Through your
participation, our Foundation can ensure that Woodlake
High School will provide its students not only their basic
education, but a broader experience to prepare them for
tomorrow.
Athletics, art,
music, drama, manual arts; all lend themselves to building
a well-rounded student.
Without your help, these extracurricular activities
might not be possible.
Your gift of cash
to a qualified charity prior to December 31 could cost you
much less at tax filing time. For example, if you make a $2,000 cash gift before December
31 and are in the 28% marginal tax bracket, your gift
could save you %560 in taxes, or a $720 tax savings if
you’re in the 36% marginal tax bracket.
Planned Giving
Charitable giving
has always been encouraged by our federal and state tax
laws. Charitable
gifts during your lifetime provide you with significant
income tax benefits, while removing the donated asset from
your taxable estate. A gift of appreciated securities can provide an income tax
deduction for the full fair market value of the asset,
while avoiding the capital gains that would be due on a
sale.
Planned giving
generally refers to a gift that takes advantage of the
current tax laws and provides the donor with additional
benefits beyond current tax deductions, including
avoidance of capital gains tax, leveraging a donors gift,
or deferral of the gift until some future date.
This type of planning includes a specific bequest
or percentage gift in a Will or Trust, the purchase of
life insurance or the use of a Charitable Remainder Trust.
The simplest
planned giving is a specific bequest of a dollar amount in
your Will or Trust. Alternatively,
you can give a percentage of your assets or a remainder
interest in your Will or Trust.
The advantages of this type of gift is that the
gift is that the gift is deferred until your death, it
allows you to change the gift at any time, and provides a
valuable estate tax deduction.
Life insurance
purchased for a charity can provide a current tax
deduction and a means of leveraging a gift when the life
insurance proceeds are received by the charity.
Charitable Trusts are utilized by donors to retain
an income interest in the donated asset while providing
the remainder interest be transferred to the charity at
some future date.
